I first started triathlon in 2012 when a friend challenged me to complete an Olympic distance triathlon. We chose Coniston Triathlon which takes place in June due to its brilliant location and

MyTriEvents reputations for chilled and friendly events. I turned up to the race with no idea of what to expect with an old road bike, a wet suit (previously used for kayaking) and some running gear. We watched other competitors set up there transitions and were encouraged by many other racers. I finished in 26th place with a time of 2 hours 25 minutes. It was a great day out the whole event was friendly and welcoming, even though I’d been very nervous I was hooked to triathlons and determined to return to Coniston in 2013.

In 2013 I continued to slowly improve in triathlon and race the following races.

  • Lancaster Witches Revenge 10k
  • Coniston Standard Triathlon finishing 6th
  • Capernwray Olympic Triathlon finishing 5th
  • Cockerham Triathlon finishing 5th
  • Kendal Sprint2 finishing 4th
  • Capernwray Midweek Sprint4 finishing 2nd
  • Capernwray Midweek Sprint3 finishing 10th
  • Lancaster Trail 1/2 Marathon finishing 5th
  • Capernwray Evening Swims

This year has very busy competing in many different events and after training hard throughout the winter season I managed to place 1st and 2nd in some events such as:

  • Lancaster Duathlon which got me 2nd in the North West Duathlon championship.
  • Witches revenge 10K finishing 1st
  • Kendal sprint (1) finishing 2nd
  • Ironman Lanzarote in a time of 10:24 overall 136th
  • Coniston Standard Triathlon finishing 2nd
  • Capernwray Mid Week Sprint triathlon finishing 1st
  • Salt Aye 10 mile time trails finishing 1st on many occasions
  • Day In The Lakes Triathlon finishing 1st
  • Total Warrior Shap finishing 6th
  • Salford Olympic triathlon finishing 5th
  • The Great North Run in 01:20 finishing 127th
  • Ironman Wales in 11:00 overall 65th
  • Kendal Sprint (2) finishing 1st
  • Lancaster Trail 1/2 Marathon finishing 1st
  • Fireworks 500 Open water swim finishing 5th

I’m aiming to start the 2015 triathlon year with MyTriEvents at Kendal Sprint 1 in April. My dad and brother in law will be also be competing, after their first triathlon at Kendal last year they are also getting the bug! My favourite triathlon of the year are Coniston Olympic and the Capernwray Mid Week Sprint Series. Both races are already in my diary. My main race for 2015 will be Ironman Mallorca on the 26th of September and I’ll be swimming the Capernwray Mid Week Swims for open water training. Oh and of course there’s the small matter of retaining my title at A Day In The Lakes.
